Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Krkonoše Piedmont Basin, Lower Permian. Small vegetated quarry shows 100-200 cm thick beds of ill-sorted sandstones with dissemnated pebbles. Sandstone matrix is of arkosic composition. Pebbles consist of quartz, phyllites, quartzites and also angular clasts of silicites. Intraclasts of claystones and siltstones can be also found. Horizntal layering prevails with some horizons swith distinct current bedding. This can be explained as a result of sedimentation in subaquatic dunes and bars. Deposition took place in ephemeral braided streams.
