Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Bohemian Cretaceous Basin. Part of the Hrubá Skála rock city (castellated sandstones), belonging to the area of the UNESCO Geopark. Depositional history can be seen on a cliff section. Two sandstone bodies of deltaic origin are separated by transgressional plane covered by residual gravel. Several types of current bedding can be observed. Herring-bone bedding is possibly of tidal origin. This locality is classified as a Nature Reserve in the Protected Landscape Area Český ráj - the Bohemian Paradise.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif - superficial deposits and post-Variscian magmatites - Cretaceous - Czech Cretaceous Basin
Stratigraphy: mezozoikum - křída - svrchní křída
Subject: geomorphology, sedimentology
Geological phenomenon: rock, bedding, unconformity
Genesis: sedimentary
Rock: sandstone
