Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Bohemian Cretaceous Basin. Railway siding cut exposes interesting sandstone turbidites of the Teplice Formation, underlying the Hrubá Skála quadersandstones. The oldest beds consist of dark clayey siltstones and marlstones. The flysch development is 15 m thick and contains also fossiliferous calcareous sandstones with abundant ichnofossils. Accumulation of Inoceramus shells was found. This locality is important as a representative of development of the Teplice Formation. This locality is situated in the Protected Landscape Area Česká ráj - the Bohemian Paradise.
