Geology

Short characteristics of the site: This locality displays a rocky ridge overlooking the Dyje (Thaya) River valley close to the Czech/Austrian state border. Two geological units are present in this locality: 1. So called Vratenín Unit, consisting of garnet amphibolite, biotite and biotite-muscovite paragneiss, quartzite and tremolitic marble.2. the Podhrady Unit consisting of amphibolite, muscovite-biotite migmatitic paragneiss with garnet. The two units are intensively folded. Slope debris and loam used to fill the depressions. In places they are covered by loess layer. The locality is a part of the Moravicum Zone.
