Geology

Short characteristics of the site: The Prague City agglomeration. Long, partly covered profile with Upper Ordovician up to Lower Devonian sediments. This sections starts with Ordovician sediments of Kosov Formation, continues with Silurian claystones of Litohlavy Formation with a thick body basalt dykes and extrusions. Also pillow lava structures can be observed. Overlying sediments belong to the Silurian Motol Formation, Požáry Formation and younger Devonian Lochkov Formation. Numerous fossiliferous limestone beds with well known localities along the whole section.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif - crystalline complex and pre-Variscian Palaeozoic - Bohemicum (Central Bohemian region) - Barrandien
