Geology

Short characteristics of the site: The Cheb and Sokolovo basins and volcanics of the Doupovské hory Mts. Small water flow exposed by vertical erosion massive lavas of limburgite composition which display distinct columnar jointing. The canyon floor is covered by coarse gravel consisting of basaltoid pebbles and boulders.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif - crystalline complex and pre-Variscian Palaeozoic - Saxothuringicum - Krušné hory Mts. Pluton, Bohemian Massif - superficial deposits and post-Variscian magmatites - Tertiary - Basins under Krušné hory Mts.and adjoining volcanic uplands
Stratigraphy: variské (hercynské) stáří vyvřelin, kenozoikum - terciér (paleogén - neogén)
