Geology

Short characteristics of the site: 1600 m SW from the church on the main square in Nová Paka. Abandoned quarry at settlement Zlámaniny. Coarse grained subarkose to arkose with pebbly admixture. They contain some clasts of claystone to mudstone. Three logs of Dadoxylon type are in situ. Psammites are penetrated by a E - W oriented vain of tertiary basalt 0,45 - 3,00 m thick. Small bodies of basalt of brecciated texture with xenoliths of sediments (probably chimney breccia) are at the foot of quarry. A part of basaltic body was already quarried. Outcrop, resp. small hill with quarry is known also as Vlkov volcano.This locality is situated in the Geopark "the Bohemian Paradise".
