Geology
Short characteristics of the site: A horizon of large mineralized tree stumps in the wall of the former Medard-Libík open-pit coal mine near Habartov, now under reclamation. The stumps are enclosed in tuffs of the Chodov Member of the Nové Sedlo Formation (Oligocene/Miocene boundary, ca. 23.5 mil. years) which buried them during a volcanic eruption. Finds of fossil flora. Products of the individual explosive events are separated by fossil soils with siderite concretions. An instructive outcrop, the only one in the Chodov Member in the Sokolov Basin.
