Geology
Short characteristics of the site: An abandoned open-pit coal mine at Tisová near Sokolov in the Tertiary Sokolov Basin, now partly used as a depository of industrial ash. The quarry wall near Březová shows a body of sand pertaining to the Habartov Member (Sokolov Formation, Miocene, 22 mil. years). This slope is scarred by erosional rills and gullies. Natural steps with waterfalls and earth pinnacles, potholes, rock windows and other perforations. A site perfectly illustrating present erosional processes.
