Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Vienna Basin, Moravian part, Neogene. Old abandoned sand pit exposing loess and sand of the Gbely Formation (Neogene - Quaternary). Sands are calcareous, laminated, with some lenses of fine grained gravel. Gravel layers contain fragmental fauna. Wavy surface of a sand body is overlain by yellowish-brownish loess with typical columnar disintegration and numerous lime nodules.
