Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Vienna Basin, Neogene and Quaternary. Natural trench exposing Miocene sediments and Pleistocene loess. Miocene sediments consist of sands, silts and gravels. Loess is calcareous and contains layers of pebbly sand on its base. Pebbles are generally well rounded. Pebbly sands or of fluvial origin and of Middle Pleistocene age. Clast provenance and heavy mineral association were studied in detail.
