Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Rocky outcrop in a ravine of Vápenka creek (a tributory of the Stěnava River) and fields and pastures between the Vápenka Creek and the Stěnava River in Otovice village, outcrops at a small pond close to abandoned gallery. Dark grey bituminous limestone containing fossils (fish remnants) with surrounding mudstone and claystone facies of Walchia Mudstone, secondary locality of petrified woods (trunks) and some secondary minerals. The Upper Olivětín Member, Broumov Formation.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif - superficial deposits and post-Variscian magmatites - Upper Carboniferous and Permian - Lugic Late Palaeozoicum (including Triassic deposits)
