Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Moldanubicum, Quaternary. Vast flood plain of Vltava River with its typical phenomena as meandering river channel, aggradation bars, overbank sediments, wetlands and cultivated areas. Small peat bog also occurs. Protected fauna and flora. Geomorphology. Narrow elongated Vltavice depression with fen and peat bog. Bedrock consists partly of weathered durbachite, partly of granulitic gneiss. Rare flora, mainly round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia). Also protected insect.
