Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Active sand pit with recently quarried glacifluvial sands and sandy gravels. Mainly alternation of fine grained gravel with coarse grained sand with abundant through cross-bedding. This sequence represents a broad sandur-type intermediate to distal proglacial accumulation deposited by meltwaters. At the base subglacial till (lodgement till and subglacial melt-out till) were described, but generally glaciofluvial deposits rests on weathered granitoid of Lusatian Pluton. Glacial origin of the deposits is evidenced by occurrence of subangular to rounded clasts of Nordic rocks, such as granites and flints. Sediments were deposited during the Elsterian glaciation.
