Geology

Short characteristics of the site: The Bohemian Cretaceous Basin Unique system of karst features in calcareous sandstones up to sandy limestones of the Jizera Formation (Middle-Upper Turonian). Small, also ephemeral water flows penetrate underground along fractures and also through a swallow hole, subsequently flowing out as a karst spring. Bartošova pec (225 m long cave) is an important geological but above all hydrogeological site. It occurs in fine-grained calcareous sandstone of Turonian age with an intricate system of ground-water circulation.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif - superficial deposits and post-Variscian magmatites - Cretaceous - Czech Cretaceous Basin
Stratigraphy: mezozoikum - křída - svrchní křída
Subject: geomorphology, hydrogeology, sedimentology
Geological phenomenon: sinkhole, swallow hole, spring, river source, exsurgence, karst
Genesis: sedimentary, aquatic (water activity)
