Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Moravosilesian Palaeozoic, Lower Carboniferous. One of largest active quarries in the Czech Republic with several levels. Rocks are exploited for aggregate production. Sedimentary sequence belongs straitigraphically to the Hradec-Kyjovice Formation. Following main sediment types are present: Fine grained and medium grained conglomerates, greywackes, siltstones and silty shales with carbonate concretions. Sediments are folded and cleaved.
