Geology
Short characteristics of the site: A rock city formed in quartzite, with abandoned quarries SW of Osek, in the Tertiary Most Basin. The body of silicified sandstone to conglomerate is Miocene in age, 18 m in thickness, representing an equivalent of the Lom Seam. Quartzite for millstone production and other purposes was exploited in quarries to the east of the hilltop. Silicification was due to the flow of silica-rich groundwater along the near Krušné hory Fault. Quartzite blocks were redeposited by solifluction.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif - superficial deposits and post-Variscian magmatites - Tertiary - Basins under Krušné hory Mts.and adjoining volcanic uplands
