Geology
Short characteristics of the site: Open pits at sites where Bohemian garnet (pyrope) has been exploited by washing. Garnet grains, mostly smaller than 5 mm, are washed from Quaternary fluvial and colluvial deposits. Garnet grains of the best quality are deep purple, and this colour is caused by the presence of chromium oxides.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif - superficial deposits and post-Variscian magmatites - Quaternary - Quaternary of deposition areas of Bohemian Massif
Stratigraphy: kenozoikum - kvartér
Subject: mineralogy, petrology
Geological phenomenon: scree, characteristic rock
Genesis: gravitational, magmatic, sedimentary
Rock: serpentinite
