Geology
Short characteristics of the site: This locality belongs to the area with the Lower Turonian sediments. Tectonic activity caused formation of several faults, erosional activity varied geomorphology with some deeply cut valleys. The marlstones and calcareous sandstones of the Bílá Hora Formation allow intensive infiltration of ground waters. The underlying layers of glauconitic sandy claystones enable concentration of groudwater sources and accumulation of water reserves. Series of watersprings follows strike and dip of beds of mentioned glauconitic sandstone and also fracture lines associated with the Novohradský Fault. Nearby accumulation of peloids was exploited formerly. This locality belongs to the National Geopark "Železné hory - the Iron Mountains.
