Geology
Short characteristics of the site: Outcrops at the southwestern slope of the Zámecký vrch (Castle hill) in Frýdek represent the type locality of the Frýdek Formation (Subsilesian Unit, Carpathian Flysch Belt). It is the historical type locality studied by Hochstetter (1852). The Frýdek Formation at Zámecký vrch consists of brown-grey calcareous mudstones (claystones) with few banks of calcareous fine- to medium-grained sandstones. Finds of ammonites Baculites hochstetteri Liebus, Puzosia aff. planulata Sow., foraminifer Abathomphalus mayaroensis and calcareous nannofossils proved the Late Maastrichtian age.
