Geology

Short characteristics of the site: An abandoned quarry east of Kochánky, near Benátky nad Jizerou. The quarry provides a good section of the Middle Turonian Jizera Formation. An over 4.3 m thick interval of strongly calcareous sandstone with ichnogenus Planolites is followed by weakly calcareous, platy-disintegrated sandstones with limestone nodules. A body of 3 m thick strongly calcareous sandstone is present in a succession of friable sandstone 8.2 m above the base of the section.
